Tech Pacific seeks traffic solution

AUCKLAND’s much-discussed traffic congestion could see Tech Pacific move its main warehouse from its site on Auckland’s North Shore.

Managing director Tony Butler says the distributor has asked real estate firms for proposals on sites, preferably on the other side of the Waitemata Harbour, to where the company could move its warehousing.

Butler says Auckland’s traffic woes are affecting the company’s ability to get deliveries to the city from the Albany warehouse it has occupied since 1998.

He has made finding a new site one of his priorities for the coming 12 to 18 months.

“It just has to rain for deliveries to become severely delayed; it is a frustration,” he says.

“This is an important challenge for us because customers feel the pain, but it is our problem not theirs, so we have to find a solution.”

The best solution, says Butler, will be to maintain two warehouse sites in the Auckland region, one on each side of the harbour bridge, but with the main warehouse located south of the city.
