Symantec has launched its new Security Awareness Program. The release is the vendor's first update to its organisational security training and communication toolkit, introduced last year.
"The programme is really about organisations coming to see their internal resources — employees — as part of the security mix or risk profile," Symantec's Education Services senior director, Kerrie Turner, says. "Technology is a part of that, but so too are people."
Turner says the revision follows increased demand in the marketplace for businesses to meet security standards, such as ISO 17799, and from calls for greater corporate governance compliance.
"Companies also want to better manage their own risk and overcome resource limitations issues," she says. "How are they going to educate their organisation about security issues like password and clean-desk policies or social engineering?"
The product will be sold under Symantec's Value and Elite Licensing programmes, Turner says. It will afford the same margin to resellers as the standard products.
"The beauty of the product is that it's an out-of-the-box solution so there are no pressures on margins like you would have with rolling out an education programme from scratch as a service delivery," she claims. "Partners can quickly roll it out across an organisation and wrap their own implementation services around it, so it's very attractive."
Resellers can also begin to tackle more strategic accounts using the new toolkit, Turner says.
"Security awareness is a great door-opener to bigger organisations looking to reduce their security risk profile," she says. "They can open the door and go in and sell more products to the organisation."
