Altech plans NZ expansion

AUSTRALIAN-based Altech Computers plans to aggressively expand into New Zealand in the new year.

Altech Computers distributes components and pre-built systems and has over 800 products on its catalogue.

The sole New Zealand distributor for Altech Computers is Geeks Direct, which was sold last month.

Altech Computers marketing manager Safa Joumaa says Geeks Direct was set up 12 months ago to be the New Zealand arm of the company and expects it to stay that way.

“We’re hoping to take the Australian structure to New Zealand where we expect it to work very well.”

Joumaa says the two markets are quite different. “New Zealand is a little more laidback; it doesn’t have the same hustle and bustle - which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The marketing in Australia is very aggressive and I think if we continue with that we can be extremely successful.”

Joumaa says Geeks Direct will handle the New Zealand marketing for Altech Computers with his guidance.

Altech Computers has been rated sixth on BRW business magazine’s Fastest Growing Australian Companies in 2004 with growth of 265% and has been nominated for IT&T Distributor of the Year award.

Former owner of Geeks Direct Grant Ovenden says Altech Computers has experienced a fantastic year of growth.

“They’ve provided excellent support over the past 12 months and I know they are looking forward to working with the new owners,” he says.
