New Geeks take over

WITH the ink on the contract dried, ownership of Geeks Direct has passed on to Goodex Trading Company.

Hamilton-based MD Alex Goodin and GM Helena Burns, both formerly involved in the hotel industry, are looking forward to a fresh start and a new direction.

“We were looking to become a reseller, but when the opportunity came up to buy the business we went for it,” says Burns.

Geeks Direct distributes computer components, primarily to the gaming market, and is the sole New Zealand reseller for TDK products.

A new-look website has been launched with new site features for resellers to be included in the coming weeks.

Former owner and founder of Geeks Direct Grant Ovenden says he intends remaining hands-on.

“It’s still my baby and I don’t want to see it fall over,” he says.

Goodin and Burns plan to meet Auckland resellers to formally introduce themselves.

“It’s all a bit hectic at the moment just getting to grips with everything. Aside from that it’s all going really well so far,” says Burns.

Set up as the New Zealand arm of Australian distributor Altech Computers, Geeks Direct will continue to distribute brands such as Zalman coolers, Corsair memory and Abit motherboards.
