IN A move to formalise its service arrangements in New Zealand, thin-client vendor Wyse Technology has appointed Datacom Engineering Services as its authorised service provider in the country.
Selected with input from Wyse’s local distributor MPA New Zealand, Datacom Engineering Services will manage a new Wyse Authorised Service Centre in Auckland.
According to Steve Macmillan, managing director of MPA, the move formalises pre-
vious service arrangements in order to meet the service needs of the growing Wyse-installed base in the country.
“It builds on what we had in place before and will lift the profile of Wyse’s servicing capabilities in New Zealand,” he says.
Macmillan adds that since Datacom Engineering Services already provides servicing for a number of other prominent vendors, it has the background systems in place to support Wyse’s customers.
Even though Datacom Engineering Services is part of the same group of companies as Datacom Services, which is a Wyse reseller, Macmillan does not expect the arrangement to cause channel conflict.
“Based on the feedback we had from our resellers we are entirely comfortable that we will not see any conflict,” he says, adding Datacom Engineering Services had a good reputation in the channel as an effective return to base service organisation.
Datacom Engineering Services will provide complete warranty, non warranty and enhanced warranty services to Wyse customers, who will now also have access to a toll-free service line.
Additional service centres may eventually be opened in other centres, says Macmillan.
“We will review this second quarter of this year, but want to bed down the Auckland centre first and give Datacom time to prepare other centres.”
