HOW does a company with no HR person win the national award from the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand?
Hosting and Datacentre Services chief executive Wayne Norrie says it’s because everyone in a company should participate in HR.
The company recently took top honours at the 2004 Workplace Awards, winning both regional and national categories for Innovator of the Year.
“We’re taking it modestly in our stride. Actually we’re absolutely delighted and it’s great that New Zealanders are starting to celebrate what they can do,” says Norrie.
Two framed certificates and an award statue will be proudly displayed in the offices of HdS which boasts an open, honest work environment with the holy grail of HR - happy employees.
The awards’ judging panel praises HdS for its innovative approach to HR which achieved results through the alignment of a philosophy of work with the actual values of the company.
“New Zealand businesses have been locked into the management practices of the large multinationals. We think Kiwis should back themselves and the award was about Kiwi companies doing the right thing,” says Norrie.
