Red alert on viruses

GLOBAL security vendor Trend Micro has issued a warning to all mobile users to be on guard against malware attacks.

The company has seen a rise in the number of viruses targeting mobile phones in the last three months. Adam Biviano, senior systems engineer Trend Micro Australia, says the company is trying to communicate the need for security through its marketing.

“While the public are becoming more savvy with technology many don’t see mobile security as a need yet,” he says.

Biviano says the company is working with a number of mobile carriers in Australia and will use them as a channel to deliver the software.

He says the mobile security market is still in its infancy and points out that Trend Micro has only released version one to date.

“The viruses being written by hackers are more proof of concept at this stage, showing the industry what can be done.”
