IN A major reshuffle Check Point Software has appointed a Kiwi to lead its Australasian team.

Incumbent Australia New Zealand country manager Scott Ferguson has been promoted to regional vice president Asia, while moving into the hot seat is local man Scott McKinnel.

McKinnel will absorb his role as ANZ business channel mana-ger into his new position and is wasting no time in making changes.

“I’m using the opportunity to do a restructure but other than that it’s business as usual. It won’t be that difficult to backfill the role,” he says.

McKinnel assured Reseller News that the restructure will have little impact on New Zealand and says he is committed to maintaining the company’s high level of channel activities.

Check Point sells 100% through the channel and McKinnel hopes recent product announcements will expand the company’s reach into the mid-tier market.

“I’m just putting in place a new consumer strategy that will have a flow-on into New Zealand within the next few months.”

Check Point’s Australasian region has recorded over 30% year-on-year revenue growth in the last quarter, following 11 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth across the region.

On his role as channel mana-ger McKinnel says he has spent the last 18 months getting partners aligned with customers and running the operational top line for some time.

He is planning to introduce a direct model to cater for the top 50–100 companies based primarily in Wellington and Auckland, but says that should not impact the channel.

Check Point’s new VPN-1 Edge W is aimed at the enterprise market and is its first series of VPN/firewall wireless security applications for remote site business locations, branch offices and partner sites.

At the same time the company has released Check Point Express CI, an integrated security product aimed at the mid-market.
