Telecom pips EDS at the post

Telecom’s IT services arm is leading the market, according to a new report from analyst group IDC.

The New Zealand IT services market tracker shows Telecom has not only knocked EDS from top position but has also become the first telco provider worldwide to become number one in an IT services market.

Jenna Griffin, IDC analyst, says it is great to see a local vendor competing at the top of a market that has been dominated by multinational corporations for many years.

Chris Quinn, general manager Gen-i, says the news came as a pleasant surprise.

“When I first saw these figures it capped off all the faith old and new customers had in what we were doing. I’m rapt for all our people who have put in the hard work during the merger of Gen-i and Computerland,” he says.

Quinn says he hopes this proves to people that the acquired companies haven’t simply vanished into Telecom but are adding real value to the proposition.

Aside from Telecom, others with a top five market share are EDS, IBM, Datacom and Unisys.
