Hitachi introduces local support

STORAGE giant Hitachi Data Systems will appoint two local support staff so it can provide partners with better service.

The company’s Sydney-based marketing manager for ANZ, Tim Smith, says he is working very closely with Hosting and Datacentre Services (HdS) — in which his company holds a 49% stake.

“HdS is coming up to the end of a spectacular quarter and is doing some fantastic things in the market,” he says.

Smith says the appointments are in response to requests from partners such as Sun, Acer and Unisys for the provision of local support. He says the details are still being finalised.

“Hitachi has been experiencing 45% year-on-year growth in the region which definitely puts it in the top spot and the market is ready to justify the placement of support staff.”

Wayne Norrie, HdS CEO, says that while his company has a strong presence in the mid to large market, Hitachi wants to reach into the lower tiers.

“Having support people here will help Hitachi reach into the parts of the market we don’t which I think is positive,” he says.
