MELBOURNE-based Region 4, distributor of CD-R and DVD production equipment, opened its New Zealand shop this week with industry veteran Peter Uffindell at the helm.
Uffindell, co-owner and founder of Southmark Computers, says the opportunity to lead the startup distributor was too good to miss.
“I could never see myself running a PC business again — not now it’s sub 35 — but this role is in the distie business rather than at the coal face,” he says.
He believes DVD production is a huge growth area and will put into place a series of specialised resellers to target different market segments.
“Downloading and duplication has taken over from VHS and there are a lot of fantastic opportunities, especially within the private education, corporate and government sectors.”
Uffindell wants to establish a local distribution network as soon as possible but says he has no plans to sell direct.
“I’ll be going out to beat the bushes but if any business turns up I’ll push it through the channel. Region 4 has a typical 100% indirect model.”
