JUST in time for the Christmas rush Creative is releasing its much-anticipated line of Sound Blaster X-Fi cards next month.
Victor Ho, Morning Star group product manager and Creative distributor, believes the cards will be a top consumer item for Christmas.
“There’s so much you can do with it and with very good margins anyone in the channel can take it on,” he says.
Nick Angelucci, sales manager Australia New Zealand, says X-Fi represents much more than just a sound card and believes it is the future of audio.
“It represents a new way of listening to music and games as it really enhances all content.”
The X-Fi range consists of four products — Xtreme, Platinum, Fatality and Elite Pro — catering for entry level through to power gaming and music creation.
Features include a 24-bit crystalliser for improved sound quality and CMSS 3D to create surround-sound through headphones.
Angelucci recently stepped up from marketing manager to take on the sales role and admits he has become the poster boy for Creative.
“I’ve always been enthusiastic about Sound Blaster — it’s why I first got involved with the company — so I’ve been asked to put my money where my mouth is and get sales moving.” Which, he says, is easier said than done, because MP3 players are such big business for his company.
“Everyone is selling MP3 players because it’s an easier sell than sound cards, but I’m now the person who has to front up to resellers and promote the benefits.”
Angelucci believes X-Fi technology is extremely complementary to media centres because it addresses the sound quality that is missing from most packages.
“It’s not Microsoft’s fault, rather the OEMers who put these systems together. That’s why we cater for both worlds — people who choose to buy a Media Centre or those that prefer to create their own through X-Fi.”
