Certification programme gives security resellers edge

A NEW certification programme will help Symantec resellers become specialists in addressing the security needs of small businesses.

The Certified Technical Specialist for Small Business Security programme can help resellers with in-depth know-ledge and implementation expertise with Symantec products to differentiate themselves, says Natasha Hook, Symantec’s business partner manager.

The programme is aimed at resellers and IT administrators, who install, configure and manage Symantec antivirus, antispam, antispyware and firewall offerings in small business environments.

Resellers certified under the programme can become trusted advisors to their clients by providing them with best practice advice and specialist expertise to establish a robust and secure infrastructure, says Hook.

The programme includes online and print training materials as well as certification testing.

Partners can sign up to the programme through Symantec’s Partnernet webportal, where they can download training materials and complete the certification exam. Printed course materials can also be ordered.

“It will resonate well with partners. Because it is online they can do it at their own pace,” says Hook.

Hook expects high uptake of the programme in New Zealand due to the large number of small businesses here.

“Organisations with up to 100 users make up a large part of the market,” she says.

Small businesses are highly targeted by malicious attacks and often do not have the resources to put adequate protection in place, says Hook.
