Solutionz gains AOpen range

Wellington-based digital media specialist Solutionz has secured the exclusive New Zealand agency for AOpen’s range of computer cases.

Solutionz founder and former Microsoft Windows platform manager Jay Templeton says he expects to receive the first product shipment in just over two weeks, “Just in time for Christmas”.

Templeton says he doesn’t plan to sell direct and is currently looking for channel partners, particularly systems builders. “We’re also looking for other companies to buy in large quantities,” he says.

All models come as bare-bones systems, however Templeton says there will be some pre-building.

Based in Taiwan, AOpen is both a computer maker and a component supplier. The company recently launched an unbranded mini PC looking remarkably like a Mac mini. It is also known for its slightly larger Cube range.

The company has had a chequered history in New Zealand. In recent years AOpen has been represented by Tech Pacific, Bluechip Infotech and Advanced Open Solutions. As none of these relationships remain active, Templeton says his agency could potentially open the entire AOpen business to Solutionz.

Sizing up the NZ security spectrum - Where's the channel sweet spot?

From new extortion schemes, outside threats and rising cyber attacks, the art of securing the enterprise has seldom been so complex or challenging. With distance no longer a viable defence, Kiwi businesses are fighting to stay ahead of the security curve. In total, 28 per cent of local businesses faced a cyber attack last year, with the number in New Zealand set to rise in 2017. Yet amidst the sensationalism, media headlines and ongoing high profile breaches, confusion floods the channel, as partners seek strategic methods to combat rising sophistication from attackers. In sizing up the security spectrum, this Reseller News roundtable - in association with F5 Networks, Kaspersky Lab, Tech Data, Sophos and SonicWall - assessed where the channel sweet spot is within the New Zealand channel.
