THE jury is still out on what a recently launched joint-venture between Nortel Networks and LG Electronics means for local resellers.
Peter Gordon business solutions manager at sole LG Aria telephone systems distributor Atlas Gentech expects the move will see the channels of the two companies’ telecommunications products converge as the offerings are integrated under a single brand - LG-Nortel.
But Rob Spray, managing director of Nortel New Zealand says only the products developed by the joint-venture in Korea will be renamed, while those traditionally developed by Nortel will keep this branding, including the BMC and Succession ranges.
“What was LG will become LG-Nortel, and what was Nortel will stay Nortel,” he says.
Spray won’t comment on what the joint-venture means for the local channel, saying that is part of a long-term strategy not yet finalised.
