BENQ has signed Dove as its second distributor, filling the gap left when Westan closed its New Zealand operation in October.
“When Westan dropped out it gave me the chance to have a really good look at who else is out there,” says Rick Jansen, Benq country manager.
What impressed him most is the way Dove conducts business.
“They were very concerned about making sure their other vendors were OK about Benq being signed and weren’t looking to add another just for the sake of it.”
Jansen says Dove’s strong national coverage — with warehousing and sales staff in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch — was also a factor.
“It has the feet on the ground to get out there and show Benq pro-ducts; that’s where its real strength lies. I believe it will be a very good long-term partner.”
Chris Rycroft, Dove general manager, says he has monitored Benq’s success overseas and believes it can do the same here with the right representation.
“We’ve looked at a number of opportunities this year but Benq is by far the best fit. Dove doesn’t tend to be aggressive about signing new agencies and looks at the long-term rather than short-term benefits,” he says.
Dove’s primary focus is on Benq’s notebooks and projectors. The company also distributes Acer and Sony Vaio notebooks, however, Rycroft doesn’t foresee any crossover. “I think Benq fits nicely in the middle of those two brands and believe we can push all three individually.”
