Kiwi takes lead of Sonicwall in ANZ

Sonicwall’s local channel is set to enjoy particular attention with its new regional manager at the helm.

Not only is Chris Barton the security appliance maker’s former channel manager, but he is also a New Zealander keen to visit these shores as often as possible.

“I’ve spent quite a bit of time with our New Zealand partners and will continue to do so,” he says.

Barton replaces Tim Dickinson as Sonicwall’s Sydney-based regional manager for Australia and New Zealand and has been channel manager since last April.

Dickinson vacated the post to explore other opportunities, which have not yet been detailed.

While Sonicwall is assessing the future of the channel manager position, Barton plans to still fulfill much of his channel-related duties.

“We have a vacant position from a headcount perspective that will be filled in some capacity and we are working out what type of role that will be. I want to continue working with the channel,” he says.

Barton says Sonicwall will continue to build on its strong channel base in New Zealand and Australia by providing more training and development and more people on the ground to help partners grow their business.

“We are pleased with the state of the brand in the region and want to leverage that success and continue what we have been doing well over the last few years,” he says.

This includes continuing to strengthen Sonicwall’s relationship with its local resellers and distributor Renaissance.

Partners here are doing a particularly good job in the areas of unified threat management and managed services, says Barton.

He adds new opportunities abound with Sonicwall’s recently introduced SSL-VPN appliance for SMEs.
