It may still be many months away, but local distributor Chillisoft is already gearing up to host a major regional security conference.
The company will play host to top-notch security experts, who will converge on Auckland in December for the first Association of Anti-Virus Asia Researchers (AVAR) conference to visit these shores.
This is the organisation’s ninthannual conference and it will be held at Auckland’s Skycity convention centre on December 4 and 5.
Chillisoft won the honour of arranging the event as the local representative of Eset Nod 32, which is one of the conference’s principal sponsors.
The company’s managing director, Geoff Cossey, says this year’s conference is expected to attract over 300 delegates from AVAR member organisations throughout Asia-Pacific.
The conference is open to the entire IT industry, not just AVAR members, and should appeal to systems integrators, large corporates, government departments and security agencies, as well as the education sector, says Cossey.
“We will be working hard to attract attendees from all these areas,” he says.
The conference theme and keynote speakers will be announced next month, when presentation papers will also be called, says Cossey.
He adds the event is a great opportunity for local security practitioners to display their work to an international audience.
“We are looking for New Zealand companies working in the anti-malware space to present at the event,” he says.
In the leadup to the event several high-profile AVAR committee members will visit New Zealand to oversee preparations and to meet with members of the local security industry, starting with Randy Abrams in April.
Abrams is director of technical education at Eset and was previously an antivirus specialist at Microsoft.
AVAR is a not-for-profit organisation based in Japan that aims to prevent the spread and damage caused by malicious software. Its members include security experts, governmental agencies and corporations in nine Asia-Pacific regions and the US and Europe.
The organisation’s last conference was held in Beijing, China.
