Local acquisitions continue

Acquisitions by Cogent and Connect NZ give the continuing systems integration market consolidation a new twist.

Onesource subsidiary Cogent is to purchase GDC’s voice division in order to grow its national communications business. The acquisition affects around 50 GDC staff but only 35 will be employed by Cogent.

And troubled GDC is also looking to sell its application service provider unit, IVASP.

Ross Jenkins, GDC managing director, says he expects to make an announcement concerning IVASP as soon as next week.

“GDC is working through a managed divestment process. It has received a number of offers but, being a public company, I’m limited as to how much I can say,” he says.

At the same time Connect NZ continues on its purchasing blaze with the acquisition of Able Business Machines.

In December Connect NZ completed the buyout of Hamilton-based Ocom Networks and Auckland solutions company Ibyte.

Brent Page, Connect NZ managing director, wants his company to become the leading independently owned voice, image and data integrator.
