Sonicwall’s purchase of email security specialist MailFrontier earlier this month will make a new range of appliance and software-based offerings available to the local channel.
According to Sonicwall’s Sydney-based regional manager, Chris Barton, MailFrontier has previously had little local exposure.
“This move creates a new opportunity for our resellers,” he says. “It currently has around 100 channel partners, while Sonicwall’s worldwide channel partner base is approximately 12,000.”
MailFrontier sells software and appliances that filter email for phishing attempts, viruses and spam.
“The market for software-based email security solutions is twice the size of the appliance-only segment, according to IDC,” Barton claims. “This enables our channel to participate in a much larger market by providing appliance, software and partner-managed solutions.”
Barton says both companies’ business models reflect the importance of recurring-revenue services delivered in an appliance form factor. The major difference is that MailFrontier brings an added option of delivering the email security solution in a software-only model.
Mark Dasent, general manager of local Sonicwall distributor Renaissance Brands, says the acquisition fills out Sonicwall’s range of products.
“Sonicwall did not have a spam device before,” he says. “The acquisitions Sonicwall has made over the past six months have added lots of different technologies where it had holes in its line-up.”
