Ingram changes no-quibble rules

Distribution giant Ingram Micro has changed the rules on its long-standing 14-day-no-quibble return policy.

From next month resellers will be unable to return particular products. These include Intel and AMD CPUs, all memory modules and hard drives and networking products from Cisco and Juniper.

Gary Bigwood, Ingram commercial and enterprise sales director, admits the change may look major but in reality only affects a narrow range of products. “We are modifying the policy to exclude custom-built products and a few of the commodity products. These are the products the vendors won’t allow us to stock rotate and don’t extend price protection [for],” he says.

Bigwood says Ingram is also unable to offer a no-quibble return on custom-built products.

“These are typically suitable for one end-user and have been built to their exact requirements.”

Consequently, he says, it is very rare for a customer to return such an item.
