Last week security vendor Check Point appointed Lan Systems its sole Australian distributor — effectively dumping Express Data.
At the time Scott McKinnel, Check Point country manager ANZ, said the Australian decision had no impact on its New Zealand relationship with ED.
But by Friday ED had terminated its ten-year relationship with the vendor, leaving Lan Systems to pick up the slack.
Paul Plester, ED national sales manager, believes a split was inevitable.
“It was better to make a quick, fast break rather than a slow, gradual death,” he says.
By Monday Lan Systems had set up a Sydney-based sales team to transact with New Zealand customers and partners with a strategy to set up a local office within seven weeks.
In a further twist the new distributor has recruited Check Point account manager Dayle Barnes from ED to become its New Zealand Check Point executive.
Wendy O’Keeffe, Lan Systems general manager, says Barnes’s start date is yet to be confirmed pending further discussions with Plester.
Additionally two Lan Systems representatives — Dave Corcoran, COO/CFO and Leigh Howard, business unit manager — will be in New Zealand next week to establish the new office and meet with key customers.
