Six degrees of separation: Firewall Systems

While Lan Systems readies its New Zealand operation another Australian distributor is preparing to cross the Tasman.

Firewall Systems will open within the next five weeks, according to the company’s CEO Scott Frew.

Frew says he has recruited a country manager to oversee the local operation and is just waiting for them to finish at their current job. At this stage Frew cannot comment further on the appointment.

Founded in 1992, Firewall Systems underwent a major transformation in 2004 when Frew and Nick Verykios joined from Lan Systems.

Since then the company has grown to $10 million annual turnover — representing a bevy of security vendors including Trend Micro, Check Point and Crossbeam. This could yet stir up the distribution market as the majority of Firewall’s vendors already have local representation.

Firewall has developed a portfolio of security services around threat management that its partners can then resell.

Peter Owen, Crossbeam ANZ country manager, says Firewall Systems has strong engineering skills and offers resellers a true value-add component.

Interestingly, Crossbeam appointed Firewall Systems as a second distributor, alongside Lan Systems, last November due to its maintenance and service capabilities.

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
