Acer opens HDS storage channel

Acer is now reselling Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) storage products through its New Zealand channel.

In Australia the alliance has been in place for 18 months but has only just been made available to local partners.

Rod Bassi, Acer NZ country manager, says his company already sells its own storage products but describes the HDS range as complementary.

“It gives Acer another string to its bow. HDS has a wide product range catering from entry level upwards,” he says.

Bassi says the recent appointment of Brent Wilkinson as HDS sales manager is a factor in bringing the reselling agreement to these shores.

“With Brent being local it gives HDS feet on the ground. I’ve spent a lot of time strategising with him as to how Acer will be taking this to its channel.”

Wilkinson says the relationship with Acer opens up a different market for his company.

“Acer has a very different model and brings a couple of distributors and resellers to the table. That allows HDS to address the entry-level product suite suitable for small to medium companies,” he says.
