Platespin enters Asia-Pacific

Virtualisation and consolidation software player Platespin has appointed Datastor its New Zealand distributor as it looks to establish a local channel.

Greg Cullen, director channel sales Asia-Pacific, is Platespin’s sole representative in the region and has been in the job less than eight weeks.

Cullen describes Platespin as one of the new breed of software companies — it was established in 2003 — thriving in today’s markets by focusing on solving business problems with innovative technology. “Datacentres are changing with the move back to virtualisation and consolidation and Platespin tackles the challenge of how managers can easily leverage the benefits these trends promise,” he says.

Cullen says his company’s operating system portability technology allows operating systems, data and applications to be moved between computers from a single point of control. “By moving to a virtual environment an organisation can reduce its hardware and maintenance costs by 70%. Platespin’s point of difference is that it’s able to release new versions of products in less than three months so it remains responsive.”

Having signed Datastor Cullen is keen to recruit virtualisation specialist partners. “Platespin is thriving in the global market by establishing a dedicated group of channel partners that sell and support its products. By developing these relationships the company has been able to win large-scale accounts — the sort that wouldn’t typically engage with newer vendors.”

Cullen believes Datastor has what it takes to build a meaningful channel in New Zealand.

“It became clear rather quickly that Vic [Dickerson, Datastor managing director]’s team has very strong relationships with resellers and SIs that Platespin needs to be successful. We will run an education programme with the channel and help with lead generation.”
