Exabyte, Ingram tackle SME woes

Backup specialist Exabyte has signed Ingram Micro as its second New Zealand distributor, alongside T-Data.

ANZ country manager Richard Giddey praises the breadth of Ingram’s reseller base in addition to marketing capability.

“T-Data is doing a very good job but plays in a niche market, whereas I believe this partnership with Ingram Micro will really move Exabyte into the small to medium enterprise [SME] sector,” he says.

Giddey says Exabyte has an excellent relationship with Ingram Micro in the US where it is one of the distributor’s top storage players.

To celebrate the signing Exabyte has cut pricing on its SME range and will break out new incentive programmes for resellers.

Desmond Ling, Ingram Micro marketing manager, says Exabyte is complementary to data management software and media brands from CA and Imation.

Ling points out SMEs are at the greatest risk from data loss but until now haven’t been able to afford the required product.

According to research firm AMI-Partners, IT spending by SMEs in New Zealand will increase by 8% in 2006 with backup and disaster recovery being the main focus.
