Fast-growing OSS bursts its seams

Fast-growing OSS bursts its seams

A victim of its own success, Auckland systems integrator OSS has made a move into bigger premises and is also plotting to establish a Wellington office.

Jim A’Hara, OSS director, says business in the capital is picking up to the extent that a second office makes sense.

“We’ve really opened up some huge potential in Wellington which the team is currently servicing remotely. Once we’ve settled in to this office I do plan to set something up there,” he says.

But for the moment A’Hara says his company is luxuriating in having room to move.

“We’ve gone from a very cramped 150m2 to a spacious 720m2. I’ve even got some of the team threatening to build an indoor cricket pitch.”

A’Hara says his company has grown dramatically in the last year and is optimistic about the year ahead, despite the gloomy economic forecast.

“We’ve pretty much doubled our client list and have a team that is now highly sought after. OSS has been at the forefront of certain tech trends that are now hot,” he says.

These include information lifecycle management, open source and virtualisation.

A’Hara describes virtualisation as a game-changing technology.

“It’s a very powerful tool. I have yet to meet a customer who isn’t excited about the benefits it can bring to their business.”

He says the glory days of IT purchasing are long gone and, with IT departments now having to justify themselves, virtualisation is a compelling solution.
