Finalists for the 2006 Vero Excellence in Business Support awards have been announced.

The awards are the brainchild of sector specialist Sarah Trotman and recognise excellence in the field of business support.

Scattered among major banks, regional economic development agencies and government departments are a handful of smaller IT operators.

Christchurch-based Comteq Solutions is delighted to have made the final four in the under $10 million-turnover category.

Jo Fife, manager Comteq business solutions division, says her company is highly customer focused.

“Comteq is very strong on customer support which is a key factor in the awards. From our perspective entering these awards has made us look closely at what we do,” she says.

Fife says she also hopes the boosted profile will open doors for Comteq.

Women in Technology (WIT) is a finalist in both the high growth and individual categories.

Carol Lee Andersen, WIT founder, says the publicity helps promote what her organisation is trying to do.

“Yes it’s about recognition but anything that raises our profile is a good thing,” she says.

Other technology-related finalists include business software specialist MYOB, AUT Technology Park and Future Mobile.

David Lowe, general manager MYOB, is thrilled his company is a finalist.

“We considered long and hard before entering. What decided us is that MYOB’s core products offer significant business benefits,” he says.

Lowe says the awards are important especially as the small business sector has been neglected for too long.

“MYOB takes business support very seriously. That’s why it runs all sorts of education and training programmes for users.”
