Acer NZ country manager Rod Bassi says his company is already off to a strong start this year and recognises the channel is crucial for further growth.
On the international stage Acer wants to charge up the global rankings this year to move from fourth to third position and achieve sales of US$12.27 billion.
In New Zealand Acer is already in third place behind HP and Dell.
Bassi says Acer experienced 39.5% year-on-year growth from 2004 to 2005.
“I don’t have the final figures from the first quarter of 2006 but I believe we’re off to a great start. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going,” he says.
Bassi admits Acer has been strongly focused on its direct sales into retail, corporate and government sectors but says his company is ready to strengthen its channel business.
“I believe that will make the difference in our growth this year.”
Liam Gunson, IDC PC analyst, says Acer was one of the main movers in the market last year because of its strength in retail.
In order to move forward Gunson says Acer needs to gain strong traction in the small to medium enterprise (SME) market.
“The channel is definitely an area Acer needs to focus on to really break into the SME sector,” he says.
