Marshal returns to its Kiwi roots

Marshal CEO Ed Macnair says “Watch this space, we’re back!”

Macnair puts Marshal’s success — with over seven million users worldwide — down to good old Kiwi ingenuity.

Marshal was born in New Zealand and Macnair is very excited about having it back here. Although its headquarters will be in England, the biggest part of the company will be based in Ellerslie, Auckland.

After splitting from American parent company NetIQ in 2002, Marshal set out to recapture old form by reeling in former employees as well as the two founders, Peter Hodges and Kevin McFall. “It’s the good old Kiwi team, and we’re very excited about it,” says Macnair.

Marshal decided to stick with its resellers and will continue to promote its products through the channel. “We have a vote of confidence from our partners and will continue that relationship. Our market share in New Zealand is in excess of 50%, counting for approximately 10% of our total revenue. We also have a new partner programme which includes new training. The partner programme will have incentives such as tech support and access to Marshal’s CRM for order processing, authorised enterprise partners and distributors.”

The company is currently recruiting in New Zealand, and has up to 70 positions to fill. “We are looking for the best and brightest there is and we hope to find most, if not all, of this talent locally,” says Macnair.

Marshal experienced a growth of 80% in the first quarter last year.
