Software showcase offers chance to schmooze

The organiser of a Christchurch event series which showcases New Zealand software and products says it is a chance for resellers to offer themselves as paths to market.

Connect Canterbury’s inaugural three-part series on sensors ran in October and November last year, and three four-weekly software showcases begin on 17 May.

Organiser Peter John says resellers and distributors have so far been in the minority, but stresses the importance of networking opportunities.

“They’re very short, sharp presentations. What we’re saying is if this is of interest to you as a reseller then after one hour you know how the product or the software works and you’ve got one-and-a-half hours to come in and talk to people.”

Sam Davies, chief executive officer of Good Dog Electronics, which was represented at the sensor series, says the events allowed the company to assess market needs and areas of possible product development.

“We found what we’re doing is right for the market at the moment.”

Good Dog is the Christchurch-based marketing arm of Data Acquisitions, which specialises in data loggers, switches, electronics, engineering and design.

Manufacturers, crown research institutes and researchers also attended the first series.
