More than 270 partners have joined Microsoft New Zealand’s Blazing Bucks reward programme since it launched at the start of April, while over 600 system builders have signed up to their equivalent scheme, MegaBucks.
Under the rewards programmes, resellers who buy licences for Microsoft products, including Office Standard and Professional, OneNote, InfoPath, Project, Visio, Windows XP, Windows server products and MSDN (Microsoft Developers Network) subscriptions from authorised distributors Ingram Micro and Express Data earn ‘bucks’, which can be redeemed for prizes worth over $64,000.
The top 25 sellers from both programmes will be invited to gala dinners in June (for system builders) and July (for other resellers) where they use those bucks in a casino-style event and an auction. Auction prizes include travel to Sydney and Queenstown, televisions, Xboxes, stereos and cameras. Others outside the 25 can use their bucks in an online auction the week after the dinner.
The MegaBucks prize auction will take place on 30 June and participants have until 31 May to accumulate points. The BlazingBucks event will be held on 29 July, with the programme closing on 23 June.
Microsoft New Zealand’s Helen Robinson, small and midmarket solutions and partner director, says the programme has been hugely successful in Asia, and is designed to be fun for resellers. It can also help promote products, she adds.
“It provides a degree of visibility for some products to ensure they’re top of mind.”
These include Microsoft’s small business server, which Robinson says has proven value but is used by only a small percentage of businesses.
Office small business edition is worth the least number of Blazing Bucks, while MSDN is worth the most.
