Low-cost security for SMEs

Symantec is wooing small and medium enterprises in New Zealand with a new, cost-effective product named Gateway Security 1600.

The new product aims to deliver high-end security at a low cost.

Rogan Mallon, Symantec senior systems engineer, says the product is based on a current Symantec product but is a different size.

“The product is equal to our 5600 product, but on a smaller scale. It is ideally suited for 20 to 100 users and our main selling points will be based on the technology involved, as well as price.”

Mallon says one of the reasons the product is presented on a smaller scale is its licensing system.

“The idea behind it is that there is an unlimited licensing system. In effect you pay for the system and get an unlimited amount of licences with that. We do, however, not recommend this system for users with more than 200 licences.”

Symantec will be providing training for its channel partners as well as providing sales tools.

“We will be conducting some end-user awareness and demand generation as well as awareness and training for channel partners. We will also be making sales tools available to partners both through PartnerNet as well as by request through the appliance site.”

The 1600 will be supported by Symantec’s own intelligence network and will be sold through Symantec’s normal channel.
