Acer beats Dell to second place

Acer has beaten Dell for the number-two spot amongst PC vendors in New Zealand, according to IDC’s figures for Q1, 2006.

Liam Gunson, senior analyst with IDC, says there is stiff competition in the second and third spots on the list.

“Hewlett-Packard still has dominance in the market, while the number-two and -three positions are closer to each other.”

Rod Bassi, country manager at Acer, is very happy with the way Acer has performed in the last two years, steadily rising from fourth to second on the rankings.

“We are very happy about it, and we keep chipping away at number one to gain market share. We are following the same model we always have, proving that we have a good base to work from.”
