Laser beams into NZ

Australia-based Laser Corporation has set up a presence in New Zealand under the management of Sim Bong, former New Zealand SMB manager at Trend Micro.

The computer accessories vendor will be focusing on the mid-to-low end of the market, launching its own brand with retailers, as well as a separate sub-brand to The Warehouse.

“We are setting up our New Zealand operations from scratch, creating an office and setting up relationships. We still have a few issues to settle with some distributors, and have yet to set up a broadband connection at the office,” says Bong.

Bong, country manager for New Zealand, says Laser has an exclusive deal with Ingram Micro for distribution, and has secured deals with retailers including The Warehouse to launch the Laser sub-brand Pro Stat.

“We are trying to fill a gap in the New Zealand midmarket, and will predominantly target mass retail. The mid-to-low end of the market has potential for us and this is where we are looking to launch our cost-effective products.”

Laser will officially launch in New Zealand on July 1, coinciding with the start of the Australian financial year.
