Mitchell takes over Oracle Asia-Pacific

Oracle Australia chairman Brian Mitchell has taken over the company's Asia-Pacific operations.

The move was announced by Derek Williams who has become chairman of Oracle Asia-Pacific and Japan. He first joined Oracle in 1988 and headed the newly created Asia-Pacific division in 1991.

During this time, Williams has grown the company to 67 offices in 29 countries across the Asia-Pacific region and Japan.

He also spearheaded Oracle's strategic initiatives to leverage key market opportunities in China and India, now Oracle's fastest-growing markets worldwide.

"We spent the last 15 years building an Asia-Pacific and Japan business that generated US$1.7 billion in revenue in fiscal 2005," Williams says. "I believe our new management team has the experience and enthusiasm to build an even more successful business for Oracle in years to come."

Mitchell's management team includes senior vice presidents Mark Gibbs, Nick Evered, Harry Storer and Bronwyn Hastings, in addition to the countries' managing directors.

"Oracle has considerable new market opportunities in this region," Mitchell says. "Our management team, which averages more than ten years of Oracle experience each, is well suited to pursue those opportunities."

Mitchell's new role as Asia-Pacific region senior VP will extend his existing responsibilities in strategic acquisitions, business strategy and planning, and management of Oracle's offices in the AP countries, to also directing day-to-day operations for the region.

Mitchell previously held the position of Australia and New Zealand managing director from December 2000 to 2004. He first joined the company in 1998.
