LCD closing price gap between models

Viewsonic has released a 22-inch widescreen LCD that reduces the price difference between LCD screens.

Jonathan Williams, Dove Electronics product manager, says the new screen looks set to retail at $799 — well below the price of large screens to date.

“It will be about three weeks away from the New Zealand market. This big stuff is going to fly quite well.”

The screen sports a five-millisecond response time, 1,680 x 1,050 resolution and advanced sRGB colour management for accurate photo printing. It is aimed towards gamers and movie enthusiasts, and will have HDTV (high-definition TV) support.

“The price difference between 19 and 20 inches used to be huge, and this represents a big drop,” says Williams.

Viewsonic is currently the only manufacturer with a complete series of LCD monitors, ranging from 17 to 23 inches.
