Partners needed for big-growth plans

Trend Micro wants to increase its small business channel partner base by 50% as it aims for big growth on the back of new products.

Australia/New Zealand SMB director Dave Patnaik says the company has already grown the reseller base on both sides of the Tasman by 90% since Christmas.

“On the small-business side we require the kind who are playing in the security space, and most of our business is linked to the server, so they have to have some understanding of the server.

“In the medium-size business, we’re looking for very specific resellers who have the capability to support our customers with technical expertise, do installation, presales and post-sales support.”

Patnaik says Trend Micro grew its local business in the first half of this year by 15%, and hopes for 60–70% growth in the second half. It introduced its Email Security Services (ESS) — a hosted email protection service for small and medium firms — two months ago. Last week it brought out the Interscan Gateway Security Appliance (IGSA), an all-in-one content management appliance which incorporates antivirus, antispyware, antispam, content filtering and URL filtering.

“Our plan is to consolidate our position and grow the business quite significantly in the second half of the year. ESS and IGSA are the key products for us.”

IGSA has two models — one for firms up to 100 users, and one for those with up to 1,000 users.
