Sharp is appointing Nutech IT Supplies to distribute its office products, including calculators, organisers, facsimiles, data projectors and cash registers.
“Our major customer base at the moment is retail stationery outlets,” says Nutech’s sales and marketing manager Nigel Willard. “Calculators form the major part of what we’re doing with Sharp and that’s what they sell.”
Willard says the extra business won’t be big initially but Nutech hopes to build on it.
Nutech, a business unit of Croxley Stationery, supports a range of other big-name brands in consumables and accessories, including Hewlett-Packard, Brother, Canon and Panasonic. Willard says the only area of product overlap is in fax machines, where Nutech also supplies Brother.
He says his firm’s strength is face-to-face contact with clients. “We’ve got account managers in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and one of our strengths is calling on our customers.”
Sharp strategic planning manager Brendan Winitana says the appointment of Nutech will allow his company to offer better service. “The rationale is to support the retail or distribution channel because Nutech is calling on these people anyway. Doing it this way allows a closer relationship between Nutech and the end retailer.”
Winitana says Sharp will still have around five direct accounts.
