Iomega UltraMax & Portable Hard DrivesGunning for storage hungry creative users, Iomega has released two new lines of whopper-sized external hard drives – the 640GB UltraMax desktop hard drive and dual interface Portable hard drive.
The UltraMax is said to provide Mac users with secure, high-capacity storage and comes in a rugged enclosure that complements Apple computers.
The drive uses Apple’s HFS+ file system, but it can also be reformatted to NTFS for Windows users, or can be set up for cross-platform use with an included FAT32 format tool.
The drive features RAID 0, which stripes data across the unit’s two 7200-RPM SATA hard drives. Other drive settings enable both hard drives to be treated as a single volume or as its own drive letter.
The drive also has a built-in USB 2.0 hub for future expansion and FireWire 800 and 400 ports.
The small form factor Portable hard drive, meanwhile, features USB 2.0 and FireWire dual interfaces and is available in 80GB and 120GB capacities.
Featuring a 2.5-inch hard drive, the device is 12.7 mm thin and weighs less than 170 grams.
Both models come with Iomega’s Drop Shock technology.
RRP: UltraMax 640GB - $899
