HP turns to Voodoo

In a move seemingly designed to match Dell’s acquisition of Alienware, Hewlett Packard (HP) announced today it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire VoodooPC.

HP will form a separate group within the company to focus on the growing gaming industry. VoodooPC co-owner Rahul Sood will become chief technologist for the new unit and co-owner Ravi Sood will become the unit’s director of strategy.

VoodooPC was founded in 1991 and has its headquarters in Calgary, Canada. The company has focused on high end performance PC’s, specifically targeted towards gamers.

Todd Bradley, executive vice president, personal systems group at HP says in a release that the company is thrilled to have Voodoo on board.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome VoodooPC, gaming industry pioneers and the premier name in gaming, to the HP team. Together with VoodooPC’s leadership and influence, HP will have the expertise to become the leader in the gaming customer segment.”

The acquisition is expected to close by November 2006. Terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed.
