Avocent expansion for Firewall

Security distributor Firewall Systems has added network infrastructure and KVM switch specialists Avocent to its base of New Zealand-represented vendors.

Avocent becomes the eighth local brand for Firewall. The distributor will also represent Avocent in Australia, where it has also recently appointed ComSol Solutions as a master distributor.

Avocent and Firewall say they began considering a relationship about a year ago, before Avocent acquired Cyclades.

Avocent ANZ managing director Leanne Ramsay says the appointment gives them credibility as a vendor.

“They really are a true value add distributor,” Ramsay says. “Firewall will bring us contact with partners we haven’t had access to before.”

She says Firewall Systems’ country manager Trevor Holland has already told them about partners they haven’t heard of, and had ideas about collaborative approaches with other vendors.

Firewall Systems says Avocent’s range will suit its many resellers who are active in data centre work.

“Traditionally we haven’t played in the KVM space but it’s a perfect fries-with-the-burger sell for us,” says CEO Scott Frew.

Frew and marketing director Nick Verykios say Firewall Systems is expanding in Australia, and made $7 million in its first year there and $13 million in the second. The company recently established an Auckland office.

The pair say the company wants to make at least $2.5 million in the first year in New Zealand as well as establishing a successful model for possible growth into Asia.
