Asustek's faster Intel quad-core motherboard

Asustek, the world's largest motherboard maker, has announced its latest motherboard designed around Intelquad-core microprocessors.

The company said its P5WDH Deluxe board, aimed at computer gamers, is made for Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core processors, and internal testing showed the system increases speeds considerably over dual-core microprocessors.

The new Intel chips are dubbed 'quad-core' because each chip contains four central processing unit cores, allowing PCs with the chips to perform several tasks at once. The chips make a big difference in servers and workstations, but desktop and laptop users only see a major impact in performance when running high-end games or editing photos or video.

The new Asustek motherboard joins a list of products it has already announced that support Intel quad-core processors. The P5WDH Deluxe will be available soon, the company said, but it did not provide cost details.

Asustek has already released another gaming board based on the Core 2 Extreme, Striker Extreme, as well as a list of quad-core ready motherboards.
