Citrix drops MPA, flies solo with ED

A change of focus means Citrix will cut its ties with MPA and strengthen its relationship with Express Data.

According to Citrix channel manager ANZ, Dean Vaughan, the decision to part company with MPA after eight years was mutual.

MPA managing director Steve Macmillan echoes the sentiment. He says, "Citrix has gone for a sole distributor arrangement. The company now has a lot more technology than in the past and is repositioning."

Vaughan says although MPA has a focus on server virtualisation, which is an important part of Citrix's business, it is moving away from being simply a applications deployment specialist to a wider focus on applications delivery.

This meant the vendor needed a distribution partner with a wider range of skills in communications, networking and application delivery. He said the company is now looking to add similarly capable resellers and systems integrators to its existing channel partners.

"We're looking to recruit partners who can articulate the things becoming more important to our needs, we need partners who have a strong server play and a strong networking play", he says.

Macmillan says, "Citrix's move doesn't leave a big hole at MPA. We still have 12 agencies. The server-based market is undergoing a great deal of change and we're doing lots of business around security and infrastructure.
