Lenovo wins Olympic torch contest

Computer maker Lenovo has come out on top in the competition to design the Olympic torch for next year’s Beijing games.

Inspired by traditional Chinese scrolls, the torch called “Cloud of Promise” has been fashioned from a polished aluminium-magnesium alloy, bringing the weight down to approximately one kilogram.

It was chosen from 300 competitor torches and will be carried by torchbearers around the world in the Olympic torch relay preceding the Beijing 2008 Olympic games. It will arrive in Beijing on August 8, marking the opening of the games.

It took 10 members of Lenovo’s design team 10 months to come up with the torch design.
