According to Sony, the cartridge holds up to 1.6TB of compressed data, and has data transfer rates of 120MB/s (native) and 240MB/s (compressed). It uses a thin layer coating technology and a smoother surface coating process, creating a low error rate and stable output. Through utilising thinner and longer tape, recording tracks are increased from 704 in the previous model (LTO3) to 896.
The cartridge also uses stable, magnetic servo signal writing technology and through hi-tech cartridge moulding technology it achieves stable write/read characteristics.
