Gupta, previously consulting manager, steps into the shoes of Graeme Muller, who has been promoted to the Sydney-based position of managing director for IDC Pacific.
Gupta says the role has come after three years with the company and was part of a natural evolution.
“It was a natural development, Graeme went on to the next step for him and I went on to the next step for me. This has been in the works for a while; it was basically a planned progression for us.”
Eva Au, IDC’s managing director in Asia Pacific says she is confident Gupta will do an excellent job.
“This is Amit’s third year with IDC Asia Pacific and he has successfully been growing the consulting business in New Zealand. He has been a key member of the regional consulting team and has recently been involved in other strategic initiatives at a regional level covering internal process optimisation, as well as working alongside Graeme Muller within IDC Asia Pacific’s Emerging Asia Council.”
Gupta has extensive experience in the areas of product development, service development, marketing management and strategic management gained as a successful entrepreneur. He co-founded and was a director of ICT business Paradigm Group, comprising nearly 200 staff.
“Not much will change in day to day responsibility,” says Gupta. “I now have more of an overall business responsibility, but I still work with the same people and I still report to Graeme.”
Addressing the possibility of further growth in the company, Gupta says IDC’s strong growth means there is room for organic growth.
“I think with the growth we have had in New Zealand over the last few years, [further employment] becomes an obvious thing. I think we will be adding a few more to the headcount in the future.”
