Australian distributor Uptime is giving New Zealand resellers the chance to offer the Mitel Networks IP telephony and Expand WAN optimisation brands.
Managing director Tony Geagea says the firm has had a “minimal existence” here previously, with a couple of engineers who also served its Fijian and Japanese markets.
However, it is about to hire New Zealand-based technical staff and a country manager to push Mitel and Expand, while also finalising a lease in Auckland for an office.
Uptime will visit about 30 resellers next week to introduce the product ranges. Geagea says they are a mix of large and medium-sized integrators and smaller resellers. “It’s not a dime a dozen, it’s more about the quality,” he says.
Geagea says Uptime’s distribution model focuses on filling gaps in the vendors’ and resellers’ skill bases where required, as the company typically offers complex technology. “We hire more technical resources and the technology has a longer sales cycle but the margins are greater.”
The distributor has about six other agencies in Australia that it plans to represent in New Zealand later.
Mitel Networks is Canadian-based with an office in Australia, while Expand has its head office in the US.
