This month the New Zealand public will get to see what is quite possibly the most over-indulgent marriage of diamonds and technology.
Philips has created a wildly expensive 42-inch LCD TV by encrusting it with 2250
diamonds, pushing its value up to $300,000.
Created to celebrate the production of the one-millionth Philips Ambilight LCD TV earlier this year, the blinged TV has been touring the world under heavy security appearing at numerous technology and trade shows.
It will be on display at Auckland's Sylvia Park mall from noon to 6pm on 30 June. Those present at the unveiling go in a draw to win a diamond-free, 42-inch LCD TV, as well as a single diamond.
Warren Roach, Philips New Zealand category manager for LCD TV’s, calls the diamond LCD a “marriage made in heaven”.
But the set is not be available for purchase by the public - it will be auctioned off for charity later this year.
