F5 Networks expands in Australia, looks to NZ

F5 Networks will increase sales and engineering staff by at least 30 percent in the next 12 months, according to the Australian managing director, Chris Poulos.

He said the increased staff is required to accommodate rapid growth in the application and WAN acceleration market.

While admitting the acceleration market in Australia is still in its infancy, Poulos said there has been a significant shift.

"We are no longer educating the market, customers are coming to us; as a result F5 is growing in the order of 50 to 60 percent per annum," he said.

Only this week Poulos announced the appointment of Paul Cameron to the newly created position of major accounts manager for the Australia/New Zealand region.

"Cameron has been appointed to drive the big accounts; since I was appointed managing director last year we have focused on the top 10 accounts and this process will continue," he said.

"His role will involve strengthening F5's relationships with key government clients, the military and corporate accounts including Australia's largest telecommunication firms and major banks."

Cameron joins F5 with broad industry experience, including 14 years in the Australian Army as an ICT specialist.

Poulos is optimistic about F5's growth prospects, especially with the growth of a mobile workforce and customers wanting access to applications anywhere and anytime.

Poulos is well known in the Australian market as the former managing director of Trend Micro. During his time at the AV provider, Poulos said the company experienced 700 percent growth.

"But the AV business is dying and being bundled; its a commodity-based business," he said.

"Now I feel like I'm in the heart of what's important. Since joining F5 I'm dealing with much broader issues."

Another recent appointment is Jo-Anne Simon as A/NZ marketing manager. Simon was previously with ERP vendor Epicor Software.

"These appointments highlight the strong growth that F5 Networks has achieved in the ANZ market over the last 12 months," Poulos said.

"Organisations are beginning to understand the importance of optimising application performance, availability and security. It is therefore critical for F5 to match its products according to customers' business needs and to work with partners to implement customised solutions."

F5 Networks has more than 10,000 customers worldwide.
